{"id":5733,"date":"2018-08-15T14:32:55","date_gmt":"2018-08-15T17:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icaro.med.br\/?p=5733"},"modified":"2026-03-19T00:17:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T03:17:22","slug":"alzheimer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/en\/alzheimer\/","title":{"rendered":"Alzheimer's"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The prevention of Alzheimer's disease is one of the most important topics in medicine today - and also one of the most misunderstood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>The Lancet<\/em> (2024) estimates that up to 45-46% of dementia cases can be prevented by controlling modifiable risk factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 That already changes everything: almost half of the cases are not inevitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here's the point that not many people make clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f that's just the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is exactly where something I've been teaching for years at <a href=\"https:\/\/dominesuasaude.com.br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/dominesuasaude.com.br<\/a> (free) and also in the contents of the site <a href=\"https:\/\/icaro.med.br\">https:\/\/icaro.med.br<\/a> (as in <a href=\"https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/saudecerebral\">https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/saudecerebral<\/a> e <a href=\"https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/demencias\">https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/demencias<\/a>): \ud83d\udc49 doing the basics well - which hardly anyone does - already profoundly changes the risk of Alzheimer's.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Institutions like the Mayo Clinic focus on the right pillars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Control of hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular physical activity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Balanced nutrition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adequate sleep<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cognitive stimulation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid excessive alcohol and smoking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2714\ufe0f That's essential. But it mainly acts on the vascular\/metabolic axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 So that explains about 45% of prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now comes the most important question: what about the other 55%s?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we know that Alzheimer's is multifactorial and silent for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Models such as that of neurologist Dr. Dale Bredesen (RECODE) show something that I teach in a practical way in my book and content:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 the brain gets sick because the whole body loses balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main mechanisms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chronic inflammation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brain insulin resistance (\u201ctype 3 diabetes\u201d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nutritional deficiencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hormonal imbalance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exposure to toxins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleep deprivation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chronic stress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social isolation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Understand: this goes far beyond \u201cgenetics\u201d or \u201cage\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it reinforces something central that I teach for free in my book <em>Master Your Health<\/em> (download now, free, complete, at <a href=\"https:\/\/dominesuasaude.com.br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/dominesuasaude.com.br<\/a>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f what's good for the brain is good for the whole body - and, to a large extent, it's the health of the body and mind that sustains the health of the brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now comes the most important - and most liberating - part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 the basis of prevention is already within your reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, with all responsibility and commitment to the Good, I reinforce it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f this is NOT advanced. Anti-inflammatory diet<\/strong><br>Real food<br>Reducing sugar and ultra-processed foods<br>Good fats (olive oil, fish, avocado)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Metabolic control<\/strong><br>Balanced glucose and insulin<br>Prevention of insulin resistance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Physical exercise<\/strong><br>Aerobic + strength<br>Stimulation of neuroplasticity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Deep sleep<\/strong><br>7-8pm\/night<br>\u201cActive brain \u201dcleaning\" during sleep<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Stress management<\/strong><br>Reduction of chronically elevated cortisol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. Correcting deficiencies<\/strong><br>Vitamin D, B12, magnesium, omega-3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7. Reduction of toxins<\/strong><br>Environment, food, habits<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8. Here: <a href=\"https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/SAUDE\/\">https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/SAUDE\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summary - Women, take better precautions, take better care of your health and start as soon as possible: above all, your brain, your mind will thank you and, consequently, your life, the lives of those around you, those who love you and those who depend on you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(*How does every woman need to take better care of herself? Here: <a href=\"https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/mulheres\/\">https:\/\/icaro.med.br\/mulheres\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Understand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data published in \u201cAlzheimer's &amp; Dementia\u201d (Journal of the American Alzheimer's Association) show, among other things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than 65% of Alzheimer's cases occur in women;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The older you get, the more likely you are to develop dementia: women live longer than men;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Women are twice as depressed as men and this increases the chances of dementia;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regular physical exercise helps prevent dementia, especially Alzheimer's, and women exercise less than men;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Women are more likely to take on the role of \u201ccaregiver\u201d for someone sick in the family, and \u201ccaregivers\u201d have a higher risk of developing dementia;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Having one copy of the apoE4 gene more than doubles the likelihood of a person developing Alzheimer's, but in women, the presence of this polymorphism tends to be worse in terms of impaired memory performance, brain atrophy and lower brain metabolism;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Women who develop dementia tend to deteriorate their overall brain performance more quickly;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The more pregnancies, the more protection against dementia a woman has - the more miscarriages, the greater the chances of developing dementia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Basic source:<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/health\/health-news\/alzheimers-men-women-affects\/2018\/08\/13\/id\/876760\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/health\/health-news\/alzheimers-men-women-affects\/2018\/08\/13\/id\/876760\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Don't wait for the first symptoms (or even illness) to take this seriously!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWB6IsbDry4\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF;
