Is eating well enough? Ideally, you should have a healthy eating routine, prescribed and monitored by a good functional nutritionist, in my opinion and that of many other health professionals. This includes quality food that is varied and appropriate for your body. After all, a good diet is a fundamental healthy lifestyle habit, because your food can be your poison or your antidote.
Balance is essential for nutrient absorption
When it comes to properly absorbing nutrients from food, however, the issue is a little more complex. For this, you need balance and optimal functioning, basically:
- Appropriate gastrointestinal pH for each part of the digestive tract (as they are different along the way).
- Properly formed, secreted and acting pancreatic enzymes.
- Adequate and balanced intestinal flora.
For this reason, the chronic use of antibiotics, antacids, laxatives, excess carbohydrates and additives in the diet can impair the absorption of nutrients.
Got it? Pay due attention to these factors, or you could end up with ‘the most expensive and nutritious poop in the world’, even though you're actually malnourished!
Are you ‘just’ eating well? Or have you been doing your bit?
