Vitamin D - 7 Myths and Truths:
️⃣ Most people lack it and being within the conventional “sufficiency” levels of traditional laboratory tests does not usually guarantee optimal levels.
️⃣ Its deficiency negatively affects hundreds of organic processes and can cause, aggravate or maintain most symptoms and diseases. Access and check it out at icaro.med.br/?s=vitaminad and, above all, at this link: icaro.med.br/vitamin-d-your-health-depends-on-it/
️⃣ Most of the vitamin D we need we do NOT get from our diet, but from the transformation of cholesterol in our skin, when irradiated by the sun's UVB rays. Nobody “absorbs” vitamin D directly from any light, but we all depend on sufficient regular exposure to sunlight to make it in an equally sufficient way (even more so for people with dark skin color, which blocks more UVB radiation).
️⃣ As we get older, the intestinal mucosa absorbs less vitamin D from food and the aging skin synthesizes it less: this is why, over time, we are more prone to vitamin D deficiency.
️⃣ Vitamin D is fat-soluble, i.e. it dissolves in fat: that's why anything that impairs the intestinal absorption of fat (including drugs like orlistat and the like) will reduce the amount of it that reaches the blood. For the same reason, the more fat mass someone has, the more vitamin D tends to dissolve in it and thus become less available to the rest of the body. Other drugs that reduce the body's production of cholesterol end up having a negative impact on the transport of vitamin D in the blood, such as statins.
️⃣ Vitamin D is so important that its deficiency is also associated with conditions you wouldn't even suspect, such as modulating inflammation, improving metabolism and weight loss, mood disorders, anxiety, depression and even relieving headaches, including migraines.
️⃣ Remember: there's a good chance you have low vitamin D levels. Look for a competent and up-to-date health professional to assess you and help you treat it properly.
