I received the following via email:
QUESTION:
“Good morning!
I'd like to know if you have treatment for obesity. I've been struggling with my weight for 13 years and I confess I can't take it anymore. I've thought about having bariatric surgery, but I'm afraid because I know there are risks and I don't think it's right for me. I've always heard of orthomolecular medicine, but I have no idea how it works.
I'd also like to know if, in addition to the 300.00 consultation fee (I saw the price on your website and saw that you don't pay health insurance), there are any other costs at the office (such as any tests you carry out there)? How long do you ask the patient to return? Is the return visit paid for?
Sorry for so many questions and thank you in advance for your attention and reply.”

ANSWERS:
Let's go in parts, OK?
1 - For more than 10 years, I have been treating hundreds of patients whose main (or secondary) goal is to lose weight healthily. A little more about my work philosophy and how I usually work in the office can be found at these links: https://icaro.med.br/comoeutrabalho/
2 - On how to treat obesity and overweight in an effective but more natural way, I suggest you read this first: https://icaro.med.br/emagrecimento/
3 - This is how orthomolecular medicine works: https://icaro.med.br/ortomolecular/
4 - I don't carry out tests in the office, and the consultation includes a return visit within 30 days, with no further charges during this period. The tests I usually order are blood, urine, feces and saliva, to be carried out in conventional external laboratories. The same goes for the mineralogram, when necessary (find out more about it in answers 14 to 17 of this excellent article: https://icaro.med.br/ortomolecular-tire-todas-as-suas-duvidas-sobre/).
In a nutshell:
- Healthy weight loss = lose fat + gain muscle mass + well-being
- The best way to lose weight healthily and maintain the weight you've achieved is to improve your lifestyle habits.
- Poor lifestyle habits lead to hormonal problems and neurotransmitter disorders, factors that can make healthy weight loss even more difficult.
- Weight-loss drugs rarely combat the “cause of the problem”: in other words, when you stop taking them, you're likely to put on weight again (and even more, making it harder and harder to lose weight)... And how productive is it to suffer to lose weight and even more so to maintain results?
- Examinations are much less important than detailed, thorough and attentive consultations.
- Be accompanied by professionals who know how to listen to you and give value to all your complaints, in other words, who are genuinely interested in your case; after all, if the professional “pretends” to consult you properly, you may have to “pretend” that it worked.
- Quality nutritional support (I suggest functional) is very important in the process of healthy weight loss (I would say, fundamental).
