Researchers at New York University Langone Medical Center in the United States have shown that a child's bacterial flora can be damaged for up to a year after the mother uses antibiotics in the immediate postpartum period.
Understand that whenever the amount of “bad” bacteria in your intestines exceeds the amount of “good” bacteria, you tend to suffer more from inflammation, infections, sensitivities, allergies, poisoning and many other forms of aggression against your body. After all, well-functioning intestines need water, fiber and probiotics.
In addition, the study also proves that “this is also true for adults, most of the time when antibiotics, especially oral antibiotics, are used”.
Dangers of overusing antibiotics
The study helps to reinforce the evidence of the damage that the abuse of antibiotics can cause. In a report that discusses the results of the research, a doctor says: “We know that the excessive use of antibiotics is harmful and that, in fact, they have been over-prescribed, often unnecessarily.”
Researcher Maria Gloria Dominguez-Bello, one of the authors of the study and a professor at New York University School of Medicine, warns that drugs should only be used when they are really necessary. “Antibiotics should only be used when the benefits outweigh the costs. People have been using these drugs as if they were harmless, but they are harmful to our microbiome,” she explained.
Here's the warning: Take good care of your intestinal bacterial flora, which, when healthy, is one of your healthiest allies!
