A minute of your common sense, please:
Sometimes, several months after their last appointment with me, patients send me an email (or an Inbox, WhatsApp... even though I've made it clear that these contact methods are only for emergencies...) asking if they can or should repeat their last appointment with me. prescriptions without “the need for re-evaluation in the doctor's office” and, if so, what should be maintained.
Answer: NO!
Justification: The supplements and/or medicines that were indicated for you were prescribed based on your moment in life, your complaints, your clinical history at the time, your complementary exams and a maximum recommended time to evaluate or check the results of the proposed treatment - all this so that in a new evaluation, depending on the effects in your case, the conduct can be reviewed and what is no longer necessary removed, what may need to be changed and even substances that new exams, symptoms and conditions indicate are necessary added. In other words, if you simply repeat the prescription, the pharmacy has made a mistake (it has prolonged your use of active ingredients that may no longer be the most appropriate for your case, and may even lead to symptoms of overdose and intoxication) and you have made a mistake, as you may achieve different, lesser or even worse effects.
Have you now understood the need for periodic reassessment by your (or their, if more than one works well in a multidisciplinary way, which is ideal) health professional?
Have a good week!
Some patients seem to get upset with me when I explain all this, but it's conduct based on common sense, good technique/practice and, above all, the best interests of really taking care of each patient WELL.
