Slow metabolism and difficult weight loss

QUESTION

Good morning, Dr. Icaro,

I've been following you on Facebook for a while now and I really enjoy your articles, which clear up a lot of my doubts. Today, I'd like some advice. I'm 38 years old, 1.69 m and 96 kg. Six years ago, I gained almost 40 kg during pregnancy and managed to lose weight soon after giving birth. Since then, I've had to deal with losing my job, the death of my father and a serious illness in my daughter. I've tried everything to lose weight, but to no avail.

Tomorrow will be one month since I started exercising. I walk every day at lunchtime in a park near my work and do a bit of exercise in the outdoor gym provided by the Y's city hall in the parks. I've changed my diet, reducing carbohydrates (not completely) and eating more vegetables, fruit and soy protein.a.

I've lost 2 kg this month, but I'd like your advice on how to speed up my metabolism, as I feel it's slow. My intestines work normally and all the tests I've taken are normal.

Thank you for your attention.

ANSWER

Hi X,

The Federal Council of Medicine prohibits any doctor from carrying out consultations over the internet, i.e. not in person. For this reason, I ask you to forgive me for not being able to prescribe treatments or order more in-depth tests here. I would like to point out that I consider your case to be worthy of a thorough history and detailed assessment.

In the meantime, I'm going to offer you some remote tips to help you “speed up” your metabolism in a more natural and healthy way:

1 - Read the content of this link and, as far as possible, try to follow the advice: https://icaro.med.br/module-seu-metabolismo-e-tenhamantenha-resultados/

2 - Also read the content of this other link. The more advice you follow, the better and more lasting the results will be. It's important to understand that no metabolism is inadequate when the individual acquires and maintains healthy lifestyle habits: https://icaro.med.br/habitos-saudaveis-de-vida-nao-sao-caros/

3 - Don't just use weight as a parameter to monitor your case. Remember that fat loss can be masked by muscle mass gain. Measures such as well-being, mood and how your clothes are fitting are better indicators of healthy weight loss.

4 - With regard to tests, it is important to know whether or not those carried out are sufficient. Sometimes, the parameters of normality can vary according to the patient's complaints and the area of activity of the health professionals.

5 - Good bowel function is not limited to the frequency of bowel movements. It is important to assess aspects such as the presence of gas, abdominal distension and the consistency of the stools.

6 - Nothing replaces having your diet adjusted by a nutritionist, preferably a functional one, as each person has different nutritional needs.

I hope I've helped and congratulate you on your efforts. Keep going the right way!

Cheers,

Icarus
